Sunday's Outing..

Greetings All! 

Happy Sunday! It's been a chilly, but beautiful weekend here in Atlanta. I actually broke out my sweater and (one of many) scarves for my outings. :) I love getting out and walking around in the chilly air. There's just something festive in the air when it starts to becoming layering season! Next weekend for our next outing we may go to the Georgia State Fair. Good times. :) Here's what I got into today... 

We had a late start getting out for the day and so we decided to have a nice brunch at Urban Cannibals in East Atlanta. Their 'samiches' are phenomenal! The fact that they call their sandwiches, 'samiches' alone let's me know that it's a great place to eat.. It's a fun and rustic atmosphere as well. You can get a samich and pick up general store items too!

 

Wanting to stay out in the sunshine, The Boo & I took a walk down the street to the vintage home furnishing store called Kaboodle.  They have a lot of fun re-purposed items like coffee tables, dining tables, and kitchen gadgets. I even saw the exact kind of sewing machine that my mother has and still uses to this day! 

Even saw this creepy, but kool sculpture at an old pay phone place. The face has three mouths and seven eyes, and what looks like hair (or tongues) all around it's face. I dunno what's supposed to be going on here or what it means, but it's mosdef an attention grabber!

The Dragon in the Village

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! Mine was pretty fabulous. Thank you for asking. :) Since I wake up at the butt crack of dawn (according to my friend), I was decided to get out and about to run an errand before the day really got started. On my way to the Post Office I saw a new (at least new to me) sculpture and I just had to take pictures to share!

 

Part of the reason I like living where I do is because you get to see all kinds of street art. Now why there is a dragon in the middle of the village, I don't know. However I can totally appreciate it.

 

 

 

 

My favorite part on here is on the chest of the dragon. I am a heart fiend. Anything to do with the hearts and I swoon. No lie, I probably have at least 8 jewelry items right now that are hearts! So a hand holding a heart, is all the better to me. :)

 

 

 

 

I love the fact that the dragon has so many different textures that make up the whole sculpture. Not sure what those symbols mean. Can anyone give me an idea? I thought this was a finished piece that had been here for while since some of the areas seem to be rusted. But later that afternoon as I drove by, I saw someone still working on it. Using recycled material, maybe?

Food Adventure # 27 or Something Like That...

Greetings Friends!

I don't really know if it's my 27th food adventure or not, but I guesstimated... 27 sounds like a good number right? Yeah, I thought so too..

I was coming back from mattress shopping on Saturday when I decided it was time for another food adventure. Speaking of mattresses... can I just say that memory foam is really the only acceptable way to go.  And if your fine as hell, friendly neighborhood mattress salesman doesn't tell you how to properly test out a mattress to see if it will work for you, then just walk out and go to another place. So I got to ogle eye candy at the mattress store and then go for a delicious Vietnamese sammach here at the yellow shop pictured below.

I must admit that although I had been wanting to try this place for quite some time, I was intimidated for months on end, because I had no idea what a Vietnamese sammach would be like or what it entailed. I'm very glad I gave it a chance though. The smell alone will carry you by your nose to come in and have a taste.

I was charmed from the first step I took inside this place. It's very warm and inviting, with great art hanging on the walls (which I always appreciate), there were games to sit down and play if you so chose, and Q who made my sammach treated me like family. She was really quite delightful. The type of person who has such good energy that you felt like you just got a really good hug without actually getting one.

There are maybe 2-3 tables in there to sit down at so that you may enjoy your bahn-mi sammach, while the wonderful aroma of food swirls around you.

I had the Lemongrass chicken bahn mi and it was awesome! Besides the chicken, there were pickled cucumbers & carrots, cilantro, and some sort of spicy chili Thai sauce that was on there. I forget what she called it, but it was red and seemed to have this sweet and spicy thing going on making my tummy do a happy dance!

It's the type of shop you can go to once a week to sit and relax in and have wonderful good times. The prices of bahn mi's are very reasonable. I would've taken a picture of said bahn mi, but.... it was all gone before I realized what had happened. lol! So.. if you find yourself in the East Atlanta Village, go visit Q and try one of her bahn mi!!
