Weighing In: It's Wednesday!

Greetings...

Seeing that it is Wednesday and I've been doing quite a bit of thinking lately, I figured it was time to weigh in. Brace yourselves... I'm about to get wordy. :)  So let me update you on my latest weight-loss adventure. Taking supplements is all the rage now in the weight-loss game apparently, so me being the ever curious Gemini, I wanted to check it out for myself.  The lady at The Vitamin Shoppe said, 'oh yeah! take these fiber pills! It helped me lose 13 pounds in a month! They will help keep you full when you eat.' The way she was talking, you'd think she had just discovered that they had magic in them. She didn't claim there was any magic, just that they would keep you regular, and let's be honest...... It's always a good thing to be regular.

So trying to save a buck, as they were on sale, I bought them (as opposed to the more expensive pills I was contemplating) before reading how many you need to take on the daily. Don't you know that you have to take 3 of those horse pills!! I was horrified. Not only because they were huge (I’m always afraid I'm going to choke on any pill no matter the size), but that I had to take 3!
Before every meal!!

So I put on my big girl panties and took one (or rather 3!!) for the team and started using the pills as instructed... Let me just tell you... I might as well have not eaten anything at all, because those pills had me feeling so bloated and uncomfortable all the day is long.. #notkool  As every women knows, we don't need any help with feeling bloated and uncomfortable. So that lasted for about oh um, 4-5 days until I couldn't take it anymore. So yeah.. no more of that.

So I'm back to no supplements and I feel better for it. Later that week I had a revelation though. For the longest time, I've been trying to figure out what the difference is in the way that thin people eat as opposed to people who are overweight.

The one thing that I can find that is consistent is eating small amounts of food. Have you experienced that moment when you're out with your friend and she takes 3 bites of her salad and eats half of the half sandwich she ordered and claims to be SO stuffed! Then proceeds to grab a non-existent muffin top that isn't there to show how fat she is... Yeah, I'm starting to think they are serious about feeling stuffed. Being Fat? No. You're a size 8. Please.shut.up.

I was talking to a work friend and she was eating a piece of toast with peanut butter for breakfast and was contemplating eating her banana as well. In my mind, I was like 'Duh! And grab another piece of toast to go with that homie!' In her mind though, she thought that she would feel stuffed for a good portion of the day. So I was like 'wait-a-minute... ole girl is what? like a size 5 and this is what fills her up??'

Maybe my idea of a proper sized meal is really skewed!' Okay so my idea of breakfast is 2 eggs, some home fries, 2 sausage links, and 2 biscuits w/butter or 2 pancakes w/butter & syrup. I mean.. that's what Bob Evans says is breakfast.. They can't be wrong, can they? lol.
I know that's too much food and so my plan of attack now is to eat much smaller meals with some low-cal snacks in between. Oh! and Let's not forget the water they say you must throw down your throat hole. This plan seems to be going quite well thus far. I don't feel so heavy all of the time and that helps me feel more comfortable in my own skin. (and clothes for that matter) We'll see what the scale says at the end of the week. :)

Ciao!

Weekly Wishes!

Greetings Peeps!

So as I normally do, I was reading through one of the blogs I follow (jenneng), which of course led me to another blog (the nectarcollective) and I ran across this awesome post where you talk about your weekly wishes. I thought that it would be fun!

Here’s how it works: You tell about your weekly, monthly, etc goals/wishes/achievements and you get to be apart of this big group of people that are doing the same thing. Yay!

Weekly Wishes as Follows:

1. I have been writing a book for a while now. Sometimes it’s hard to know where you want the characters to go. I know what I want to happen in the storyline. It’s just determining how to get them there. So I really wanna push through and write, write, write. Or to quote Carrie Bradshaw when referring to writing, “I want to lock myself in here and just you know.. bang it out..”

2. I MUST get back to exercising TODAY! I’ve been really slacking. :o/ Although I do dread doing it, it’s not nearly as bad as actually doing the work. Well… I’m mean.. sometimes it is. But for the most part it’s okay. Right?

3. Gather up a couple things to sell on eBay or Poshmark. I want to sell my old galaxy S3 and maybe a pair of shoes, some clothes and at least one home décor item. I always say I’m gonna do it and then I just don’t. Who doesn’t like extra money? Oh and can I just say that the Samsung Note 3 is THE most awesomist phone everrrrrrrrrrrr! #Androidforlifebaby

4. Start a new crochet project. I’ve been meaning to make this scarf/mini shawl since forever!!! I always think about doing it when I can‘t do anything about it, like when I’m at the mall or while I’m at work. This does me absolutely no good… While I’m not home, something will make me think of crochet and then it’s like, ‘Oh yeah… I’ll start that when I get home!’. Then I get home and I start doing everything under the sun except pull out my crochet bag which by the way, sits right in my face next to the couch.

5. Okay… this is a big one. I really and I mean really need to draw something! What? You thought I was going to say something like remember to feed the cat, because it’s been a week? No. Drawing is a big deal to me. Or rather I should say being artistic. I went to college for art. I have a freaking degree in it. It’s always been my first love since I was 5. However, I’m also emotionally scarred from one particular teacher who was awful, very critical, and told horrible off colored jokes that I refused to laugh at even though everyone else did. He just wasn’t funny… Anyway, I pretty much hear his criticism in my head every time I start a new project and then I just go blank and put all of my art supplies back where they were. Do I sound dramatic? Oh well. The plan is to draw/sketch a little something every week until I get comfortable again. Sending positive vibes my way would be appreciated.

Do you have any wishes you want to accomplish this week? Share them with me! Wanna start a convo? Email me at asparkle@asparklesays.com

Food Adventure #30

Greetings!!

As is typical for me and The Boo, we went out for dinner and a movie last night. Steak & Shake was our first choice, but it was crazy busy and I don't know about your local one, but they're known for being really slow at mine. By the by... You MUST try the red velvet shake. Its just... Just... There are no words really. Just go try it!

Next up was Chili's.. Now I love me some Chili's. I have fond memories of going there every Friday night in college with my friends. It was pretty much like going to the club in comfortable clothes and eating really good food. However, it was busy too so on on to the next one...

It was concluded that we were to eat at Waffle House and then a glorious green sign beckoned. It was Wok Asian Stir Fry and both The Boo and I were up for the adventure!

Yet again.. My theory about hole in the walls having the best food was proven to be correct! I ordered the Bourbon chicken, fried rice, and spring roll and it did not disappoint! I put soy sauce on the rice, but quite frankly it didn't even really need it. Me and spring rolls have never really been friends because a lot of times they are tasteless, but this one was good. This meal reminded me of that really good Chinese food you can get in any mall. Don't sleep on the Chinese mall food. It' good!

Okay so, if you have yet to try a non-bigbox restaurant then you must.. I know its going to look a little seedy and you might question your safety somewhat, but go ahead and try one. (Make sure you look at the restaurant health inspection grade) You'll be fine and be glad you did. :)

Have you had a food adventure lately or Eaton at Wok Asian Stir Fry? Tell me all about it!

Ciao!

Weighing In: The Stand Still

Greetings...

Happy Wednesday all! If you've been following along then you know I've been on a weight-loss journey for a while now. I went back to diet and exercise and I still haven't picked Eat Q back up yet. Something I know about myself through trial and error is that in order for me to be consistent, I have to be reading about a healthy lifestyle in order to keep motivated.

I've been 'doing the right thing' for about 3 weeks now and this is about the time that I lose focus and just wanna be lazy and sit down somewhere and gobble down some McDonald's or the like. I've lost a total of 5 pounds so far and I'm totally geeked about it. This past week though, I didn't lose anything. Disappointing, but at the same time, I'm glad that I didn't gain anything either. It seems to me that drinking enough water is the total key and I just gotta tell you that I've totally been BS'ing on it.

I don't like drinking a lot of liquids as it is, just because I just don't feel thirsty a lot of times. (or maybe I ignore it) It doesn't help that it's cold where I work and drinking even tepid water makes me colder. I end up drinking tea in order to stay warm. I guess I just have to bite the bullet and just force myself to drink the stuff!

When you're trying to be healthy, how do you stay motivated?

The Dragon in the Village

Greetings...

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! Mine was pretty fabulous. Thank you for asking. :) Since I wake up at the butt crack of dawn (according to my friend), I was decided to get out and about to run an errand before the day really got started. On my way to the Post Office I saw a new (at least new to me) sculpture and I just had to take pictures to share!

Part of the reason I like living where I do is because you get to see all kinds of street art. Now why there is a dragon in the middle of the village, I don't know. However I can totally appreciate it.

My favorite part on here is on the chest of the dragon. I am a heart fiend. Anything to do with the hearts and I swoon. No lie, I probably have at least 8 jewelry items right now that are hearts! So a hand holding a heart, is all the better to me. :)

I love the fact that the dragon has so many different textures that make up the whole sculpture. Not sure what those symbols mean. Can anyone give me an idea? I thought this was a finished piece that had been here for while since some of the areas seem to be rusted. But later that afternoon as I drove by, I saw someone still working on it. Using recycled material, maybe?

So that's it for now! Have you seen any awesome street art lately? Let me know! ;o)

Ciao!

A. Sparkle
