Food Experiment: Fried Green Tomatoes

Salutations!

If you read my last post, then, you know I went home a couple weeks ago. Often times The Mom and I like to cook stuff when we're together and this time was no exception. Instead of the normal eats, we decided to branch out and tackle Fried Green Tomatoes! I must tell you that whenever I think of the food, I immediately think of the movie! It's one of those things you watch when you're alone at home with a lot of time on your hands.

I've had them one other time than this and I thought they were rather tasty, so I gave the thumbs up to the challenge! I will admit now that I really didn't have too much hands on action with this. I was too busy snapping the pictures and being excited. :)

We pulled out all of the ingredients first to get them ready:

*Flour ~ Cornmeal ~ Baking Powder ~ Salt ~ Cayenne ~ Milk ~ Eggs ~ Tomatoes ~ Butter *

Then it was time to get elbow deep in some Southern cookin! The tomatoes were expertly cut by my mother into nice thick slices and then given a frothy milk and egg bath. Next it's a dunk in the cornmeal and seasonings and finally a rest on the pan to before being thrown in the cast iron skillet..

They fry up quick as a flash and are crunchy on the outside and firm and hot on the inside!  Some got a little darker than expected, but even they still had a good flavor.

I would totally make these on my own. It reminds me of frying up some pork chops except it takes a lot less time. Have you made fried green tomatoes before? How did it go?

Until the next time..

Ciao!

Bracelets & Little 5 Points

Greetings!

I'm proud to present my newest sale! I decided that it was high time I made something for myself to just bop around town in, right? I like the side effects of self promotion, because someone spotted it and wanted one too.

Of course I was happy to make her one too! Another satisfied customer.

Thought I'd share a food adventure with you too. Since we're both jewelry whores, me and my friend, Stacie D went to Little 5 Points to acquire some new things. L5P is the spot to find the new new! While we were there, we stopped in OMG Taco. I've never been, but always wanted to go and I'm glad we did.

Although I didn't dig the high tables, (because I'm a shorty doo wop) the atmosphere was good , the food was slammin', and the guy taking the order was cute.
You can't complain about cute guys.. :)

Omg Fries! Very good. Could possibly be addictive. Has cheese, lettuce, chicken, and Omg sauce.

So that's it. More pictures coming tomorrow of new products.

Mini Vaca, Yay!

Heeeeeeeeey!
Welcome! Its the Very first blog! So lets get down to it. I've just gotten a new camera (so exciting!) and I'm ready to snap away at the funny little things that life has to offer. So with that being said.... I don't know about you, but sometimes when I'm at work I need a little get away on my lunch break. I was invited to explore a never tried before restaurant. I'm generally always up for an adventure so I decided that I was down for the ride.

Me and a co-worker went to this nice little place called Taco Cabana. It was very colorful and festive. It made me feel like it was already summer time even though it was only like... ::thinkin:: maybe 20 degrees outside! (Well... I may be exaggerating that a bit.. but it was very windy!) So getting back on track, they had pretty good food, although it was a little pricey for the amount of food you got, but tasty nonetheless. My co-worker asked if they had chimichungas, and the guy at the register said, 'No we don't. How do you know what those are anyway?' LOL!
I don't know about you, but I thought that was hilarious! It was as if he didn't expect anyone who wasn't Latino to know what that was.
So tasty food, good conversation with a co-worker, and funny guys who take your money in for exchange for food. You just cant beat that, don't you agree?
