The Chicken & Waffles of It All: Food Adventure #33

Salutations one & all!

I hope everyone has had a great day. It's Thursday, which means it's Friday Eve and the weekend is almost here! I have quite an adventurous weekend ahead of me and hopefully I won't forget to take a ba-gillon pictures of everything. And then of course some crochet will be thrown in there too, because I'm totally obsessed with playing in yarn.  :op

So last weekend The Boo and I finally Finally found our way to Gladys & Ron's Chicken & Waffles. Now granted, I've been there once before back when I first moved to Atlanta, but I hadn't been back since. At the time, I went to the one downtown where the line stays overflowing and out of the door at all times and there's little to no seating. So we make it in the restaurant and I order breakfast. It was something like a waffles, eggs, turkey sausage, etc....
I was very underwhelmed by the food and left feeling like, "Meh.. I won't need to eat there again."

The Boo however raved about the food and was appalled that I didn't at least get the signature dish of Chicken & Waffles or what they officlly call the 'Midnight Train.' So this time I got the famed Chicken & Waffles, but of course it was my version of it. It traditionally comes with bone in chicken wings. I don't eat bone in chicken too tough, so I got it with chicken tenders and some honey mustard on the side. Some macaroni and cheese and yams where involved too.

 I was a happy camper.

I don't typically like going to soul food restaurants, because everything tastes so bland. Plus if I want soul food all I gotta do go visit some family and they do a much better job at it.  But! this food was glorious!! Everything was seasoned to p-e-r-f-e-c-t-i-o-n. Even the drink I ordered was delicious!

I got the 'Uptown' or better known as the 'Arnold Palmer', which is basically half sweet tea and half lemonade. All in all it was a good experience and I'm ready to go back again. If you're in Atlanta, I can't recommend going to the location downtown, but if you're with some locals, go to the one out in Lithonia. The parking, wait lines, and food is much better!

So that's it my dears! Have your tried any new restaurants or food lately? Have you had chicken & waffles? Have a fabulous rest of the day!

Ciao

  1. Believe it or not, I've never had chicken & waffles! I've really gotta try it sometime. And the Uptown drink sounds good. I'm a big fan of sweet tea, and I love me some lemonade too, so I would probably like it. =0)

  2. That's one thing I missed out on when I went home to NY. I wanted some chicken and waffles. I love soul food but I'm no expert so it tastes good to me when I get it. Glad the food was better this time around, I hate to be disappointed by food.
