Mother Nature Tried to Kill Me!

 Salutations all!
And yes you read the title right... I said Mother.Nature.Tried.To.Kill.Me. and here's the story of what happened..
So The Boo & I headed on up to Nashville at the last minute for Independence Day to see some fireworks and hang with the parents. Even though I had lived there for years, I never really bothered to go downtown and to do the tourist thing. Nashville is the Country Music capital and since country music isn't my cup o'tea, I never saw a need to go down on Broadway and look at cowboy boots, country music record stores (Yes! record stores), and country music tourist trap places. However, Nashville is growing by leaps an bounds so I was excited to see what was going on. That and well The Boo hadn't experienced the essence of the city yet and it was the perfect time to do some exploring. On our way back from sightseeing and shopping we decided to ride with the windows down and let the wind blow in our hair..

Fun was had by all, but let me just say that riding with the windows down was a grave GRAVE mistake!

My eyes started watering while the air was whipping all around us. This really wasn't all that unusual, because it has happened before and I just figured something was in my eyes. Except this time my eyes were watering violently! I'm talking about if you had been in the car beside us, it would've looked like I was crying while driving. (which by the way is no easy feat) So we roll up the windows and all is well. No more tears. A little later on, I started to notice that I was getting a stuffy nose. No problem though.. Again, this was nothing unusual, but then instead of going away like it normally did, it turned into supreme stuffiness!!

What is supreme stuffiness, you ask? Well I'm sure you've experienced it at one time or another.. It's where your nose and face are so full of mucus that you feel like your head and face are going to burst wide open if you don't get some relief like, right.now. So I was thinking, 'Oh Crap!! I have a summer cold!'. I'm sure you know as well as I do that regular colds are bad, but summer colds are The Worst...

When I have a cold, I like to stock up on medicines, throat thingys to make the scratchiness/soreness go away, vitamin C pills, and let's not forget the stockpile of Kleenex that you can never have enough of. I also cocoon myself on the couch and prop myself up on pillows so that I can sleep sitting up. This is so as not to suffocate in the middle of the night from drainage & lack of air getting through my very blocked nasal passages. I'd hate for my obituary to read that I died from strangulation by mucus.

So I'm medicating like normal, but instead of getting better I'm just getting worse and I feel like I'm gonna die! My nose at this point feels like someone's whole fist is there and it refuses to move. Let's not even talk about how the one working nostril is burning when I breathe in from being overloaded with smells.

Although I didn't want to, I went to my local Urgent Care and saw the medical person and was informed that I don't have a cold, nor was I dying, but was simply suffering from allergies. Apparently whatever has been blooming this Spring/Summer season is being really aggressive on people. I was relived and surprised at the same time that it was allergies, since I hadn't suffered from them since I was a child. So they sent me on my way with a prescription for nasal spray and that combined with allergy meds got me back to 100% after about three days.

I'm very glad to be back in the land of the living. :)

Do you have allergies you have to deal with too? I'll be very leery of riding with the windows down next season. As for now, I will be staying doped up in an effort not to feel like death warmed over ever again!

Ciao!

Vision Board 2014

Welcome to 2014!

I love the start of the New Year! It’s almost as if everything from the past year just gets cleaned away and you get to start anew. I know it’s all in people’s mind, but it does provide some comfort and hope knowing that the new year can bring new joyous beginnings. Speaking of new beginnings, why is it that making resolutions seem to get a bad rap nowadays? I wasn’t really into the whole making New Year’s resolutions for most of my life, because let’s be honest.. most people (including myself) have just broken them. I do like the idea of setting goals that you’d like to achieve though. It’s the same thing as making a vision board, which I’ve been told by my friend that I must join in on this year.

I’ve decided to create one on Polyvore. If you’re addicted to or even remotely like fashion…. you need to be on Polyvore. You get to make a collage of outfits, themes, and your personal style. For me it’s like going on a carte blanche shopping spree and everything fits perfectly! Warning: It can be very addictive.

My Official Goal this Year: Discipline!

It encompasses everything that I want to accomplish or work on, (i.e. living a healthier lifestyle, keeping up with chores, really setting up a schedule for my Etsy business and taking inventory, learning how to let my light shine, writing and blogging more consistently, etc, etc, etc.) So what are your goals or resolutions? Let me know!

*Funkytown Bound* a Memphis 10 Weekend.

Greeting Peoples!

I've done quite a bit a traveling this weekend and it started Thursday evening, when I drove from the ATL to Nashville. I've driven from Atlanta to Nashville so much, I could probably do it in my sleep! I'm so good at it now, that I take on Mont Eagle Mountain at 70 mph, which is a vast improvement from not be able to tell whether I was going up or down the mountain and sticking to the very slow 55 mph.

Friday morning was a leisurely drive to big Memphis, Tennessee where I hung out with my friend, rode around town, and met up with people me and The Rent's knew. Me and the dear old Dad rode around reminiscing about different places we used to go and went and saw the 'attractions'. I felt like a tourist in the town I grew up in with all the pictures I took! lol.

We also toured the old neighborhood, my old schools, saw the mighty Mississippi river, went to Amro Music and bought some clarinet reeds, drove into Mississippi and looked around and even went to West Memphis, Arkansas.

Had lots of fun with my long time friend Courtney!! I still can't believe I've known you for 14 years buddy?!?! That's half of my life dude... Brace yourself people.. For the 1st time ever... after 4 yrs I'm actually posting pictures of myself on my own blog! *gasp*

Courtney is smizzing!

Then I decided to do the psycho smize.....

Beauty shot... :)

Yummy Foods..

Played some video games, cooked and had some nachos, watched Major Payne, and there was lots of laughter.. You can't beat that with a stick!!

Ended the trip in Memphis with a trip to Shelby Farms. I have so many wonderful memories here from just chilling in nature, trips taken here with school, learning to kayak with the Girl Scouts, riding horses, walking the trails, to even learning how to drive.

So yeah, it was a fairly busy weekend and now it's time to nom on some cube steak! Did you do anything interesting over the weekend?

~Peace~

New York or Bust

Greetings All,
I finally made my way back to NYC on Friday. I love going to The City. There is always so much to look at and observe and I can never take enough pictures. I only stayed for the weekend so it was too short, but maybe I'll be able to go back again and stay longer the next time. I got a nice shot of the Verazzano Bridge going into town. How did I get this shot? Yes... me and my Beloved drove for 14 hrs from GA to NYC. It really wasn't that bad of a trip, but then again I like to travel too.
I know your thinking, 'why is she taking pictures of power lines and smoke?' Well I happen to like smokestacks and smoke. Its looks pretty to me. And I'm thinking of doing a painting series of smokestacks.

So on our way up the east coast we encountered the dreaded TOLLSSSSSSS! I've never had to pay a toll in my life, since I pretty much grew up in the South. Surprisingly enough there is a toll in my city, but I don't have to pay it, because thank goodness I don't have to travel that way to get to and from work or home or whatever. We had to pay dang near 20 dollars in tolls! $20 dollars!!! Some of the tolls were like 5-8 dollars.. smh. But what can you do? Yeah you can avoid them, but it takes like and hour longer just to get to your destination.
It all adds to the experience of going to The City to me, so I didn't really mind that much. There are more pictures to come. Ciao!
